Black Russian Terrier

History

Dating back to the early 1940's in Russia, it is reported that over 20 different breed bloodlines were created in making the Black Russian Terrier the final outcome. This breed was created to work with the soldiers and police and accomplish working tasks in different, high stress environments. Today, the Black Russian Terrier can be seen in the USA as a companion and working dog.

Appearance

The Black Russian Terrier is a large breed dog with males and females measuring 25-29 inches in height and weighing 80-145 pounds in weight. This breed rectangular shaped head that is almost even with their muzzle. Their distinct hair cut lets the hair hang from over their eyes, to below their muzzle, creating a very long looking face in appearance. Their two ears are pendant shaped and hang firmly alongside of their face, pointing towards their eyes, diagonally. Their two almond shaped eyes are covered by their bangs, and are generally a dark brown to black in color. Their general body build is solid, long and rectangular. Their tail is cropped to about two inches in length and stands firm at their rear. This breed has a double layer, water and weather proof coat that is wavy in appearance and available in black only. Sometimes white or brown markings are present.

Temperament

The Black Russian Terrier isn't a breed meant for everyone. This breed requires more human contact than most dog breeds do, and truly needs an owner who is able to spend ample time training, teaching and loving their new addition. This breed can do excellent with children of all ages, as they are very playful and enthusiastic about kids. This breed also can do well with other dogs and pets that he or she is able to grow up around. Early socialization and obedience classes are an absolute 'must' for this dog breed. The Black Russian Terrier is extremely aware of his surroundings, small changes and details, strangers approaching and a terrific sense of whether or not a situation is safe for their human family. This breed is known for their incredibly balanced temperament, thinking and thought processing skills, never to lash out in aggression or unexpectedly. This breed is extremely easy to train and absolutely needs direction to follow on the daily to remain happy and healthy both mentally and physically. This breed requires daily activity both physically and mentally. This breed is perfect for a family who is home often, able to travel with their new dog, and able to give ample time teaching and playing with their new dog for the life of their new addition. This breed excels with agility and competitive obedience. They are also wonderful police dogs.

Grooming

This breed requires daily brushing and bathing when needed. This breed does shed.

Please note this breed requires a lot of attention from their owners, life long and this doesn't ever diminish or change. Please fully research the Black Russian terrier breed prior to adding one to your family to ensure this is the proper breed for you. Do not add a new dog to your family unless you are able to make a life long commitment both physically and financially. A properly installed fence or properly fitting harness and leash is required at all times for your new dog while outdoors. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders. Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2017. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
