Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

#

History

Dating back to the 1800's in Brittan, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was born. Surprisingly, this breed was created to warm laps of their owners during cold, windy days and carriage rides. This breed, known for being extremely happy and a wonderful couch buddy today, is also a wonderful sport dog and partner for all things active. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an extremely popular dog breed today and a great addition to families of all sizes. This breed comes in Standard size and Toy/Teacup.

Appearance

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small sized breed with males and females measuring 10-13 inches in height and weighing 12-18 pounds. Please note that males and females may be smaller or larger than show standards and still be purebred. This breed has two large, rounded ears that hang gently alongside of their face. Their two large, round eyes are brown to black in color. Their coat is soft like silk, medium in length and mostly straight with a slight wave. Please note this breed is one of few where the hair on their feet never stops growing. This breed comes in four coat colors, Blenheim, Ruby, Tri Color and Black and Tan. Their tail is long, feathered with hair and should be carried up with a slight curve when walking.

Temperament

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a fantastic addition to families big and small, with children of all ages and other pets. This breed is a great companion for relaxing indoors as well as a wonderful hiking and exploring partner. This breed loves having fun, so make sure to include your new pup in family activities and outings as much as possible. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel does not do well when left alone. This breed is always happy and ready to do what you ask of it.  This breed can have difficulty with potty training. As always, we only ever recommend positive reinforcement training methods.

Grooming

This breed does shed and requires daily brushing and bathing when needed. Regular trips to the groomer are required. This breed is one of few where the hair on their feet never stops growing.

Special Notes

This breed does have health concerns as well as temperature sensitivity. Please note that this breed needs to be within a proper fitting harness and leash at all times while outdoors or within a properly installed fenced area with you. Please fully educate yourself about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and their daily needs and requirements to ensure this is the proper breed for your family. Do not add this dog to your household unless you are able to provide life long physical and financial care for your new family member. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
