German Vina

History

Though this breed was created thousands of years ago, we are able to tell you that it was bred from Nordic herding dogs similar to the Samoyed and Lapphund.

Appearance

The German Vina is a small to medium sized dog breed with males and females measuring 11-14 inches in height and weighing 25-45 pounds in weight. This breed has a small, triangular shaped head, though it is difficult to tell the shape due to the immense amount of hair that covers this breeds body; making them appear larger and primarily round. They carry two, triangular shaped ears that stand tall on top of their head, and two round eyes, available in a light hazel to black in color. Their tail is medium in length and should be carried over their back, with their coat feathering off of it. Their coat is a thick, double layer coat that is very fluffy and full. Their coat length is medium and available in black, chocolate, wolf grey and white.

Temperament

The German Vina is a very lively, active, and social breed who needs to feel equally included in all family activities and vacations just as another family member. This breed can easily develop a barking habit, so it is important to keep this in mind from the beginning. The German Spitz is also a very good watchdog, alerting you of any suspicious activity or people coming close to your home. This breed is best suited for older children, as they can become spiteful or jealous of younger children or babies receiving more attention. This breed in general can become offended of this quite easily. Make sure to remain pack leader at all times, set rules and boundaries early, and never use any method of training besides positive reinforcement. This breed requires a firm and confident owner who has dog experience.

Grooming

This breed does shed. This breed requires daily brushing and bathing when needed. We recommend regular trips to the groomers.

Please fully educate yourself about the German Vina prior to adding one to your family to ensure you are able to provide life long physical and financial care. We recommend a properly fenced in yard or properly fitting harness and leash while outdoors at all times. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders. Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2017. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
